On the very day I set aside to write my Christmas letter, Mary Schmich`s column on such letters appeared in the Tribune (Dec. 2).
She certainly is a grinch-at best. First of all, let me remind her not everyone out ”there” is a professional writer, and a once-a-year missive is quite enough.
Second, why should we not be proud of our accomplishments (and those of our children) to share them with friends? I quite enjoy hearing of the achievements of the young men and women who are my friends` children and I`m delighted to hear that some people in this world are actually doing well, contrary to what your newspaper would have us believe.
I`m certain that no letter I might have the good fortune to receive this year will be anywhere near as pompous as that sniveling, ungrateful column.
