Cats achieve equality with dogs Friday, which means added expense for their owners. With the start of the new year, an ordinance takes effect that requires licenses for all cats and dogs older than 6 months.

Although exact figures have not been compiled, Village Clerk Jo Ann Borysiewicz said that compliance appears satisfactory. “We have had steady applications,” she said.

Application for the license, which costs $4 per year, must be made to the village clerk within five days after the animal reaches the age of 6 months.

The ordinance also requires cats and dogs to be vaccinated against rabies.
