The City Council will vote Monday on a proposal to increase the cost of a garbage waste sticker by 7 cents, which would go into effect March 15.

The price of the sticker would increase to $1.15 from $1.08 and would remain at that price until June 30, 1994. The required stickers are placed on residential garbage bags before disposal.

Tom Talsma, Geneva public works director, said an increase is required within the contract with Speedway Disposal, which handles garbage for the city.

The increase is to compensate the disposal company for rising operational costs and an increase in landfill tipping fees.

“There’s a provision in the contract to provide for an increase in the event that landfill tipping fees increased,” Talsma said.

Talsma said if there are no more increases in landfill fees, the price of the sticker will not go up again until the contract expires in 1994.
