Strike spreads: The United Mine Workers union spread its strike Monday to another 1,700 workers in Illinois, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, including mines owned by two Illinois firms, and another based in St. Louis. They join 7,500 UMW miners who have been on strike since Feb. 1 at mines operated by Peabody Holding Inc. of St. Louis.
