Developers wanting to do business in Plainfield will be forced to soak up the cost for increasing the amount of property reserved for storm water detention.
In most cases, new regulations will more than double existing requirements.
Plainfield officials said they were acting on recommendations by the Northern Illinois Planning Commission that urge communities to update their storm water ordinances.
Additional reserves decrease the incidence of downstream flooding and reduce the amount of pesticides and salt spilling into nearby streams, village engineer Howard Hamilton said.
