American driver Brian Shimer became the World Cup four-man bobsled champion Wednesday after his sled finished third in the final of the six-event series to give him 168 points.

Shimer also took gold in the World Cup two-man and four-man combined series with 308 points. Canadian Chris Lori finished second in the four-man series with 135 points, after taking sixth in Lillehammer. Wolfgang Hoppe of Germany was third in the final World Cup standings with 129 points.

Shimer and the USA 1 team of Bryan Leturgez, Karlos Kirby and Randy Jones took third on the track built for the 1994 Winter Olympics.
