In reference to the article by Michael Katz (Feb. 17), “Young people’s march asks elders to sacrifice,” these young people are addressing the masters of sacrifice.

Would these same young people work at a CCC camp for $30 a month ($25 of which was sent home to their parents)? Would they put cardboard in the only pair of shoes that they owned, to cover the holes? Would they eat cut-up bread cubes with their fried potatoes, just to stretch the meal?

Would they stand in a line of 50 to 100 people for just a chance at one job? Would they settle for 2 or 3 cents an hour raise? Could they live a day on a box of Ritz crackers? Would they be willing to move into a small apartment with another family, just to share expenses?

We did all of these things plus send their parents to college so that they could enjoy a lifestyle we never had or could never hope to have. Will they be willing to sacrifice along with us now? If so, let’s do it.
