Finally the words are sinking in . . . (as Sears catalog stores are sent sinking) Sears’ move to Hoffman Estates has been and will continue to be costly to the State of Illinois taxpayers!

The land at the Poplar Creek site was basically a giveaway and Sears’ taxes are minimized for many years yet to come. Layoffs that affect Sears and non-Sears employees throughout the Chicagoland areas as well as multitudes of others across the nation due to the catalog being discontinued are startling!

Sears is not only an anchor store in many area malls but is also the anchor of the north end of the proposed Fox Valley Freeway. This freeway basically starts/ends at their front door and goes south. At the rate Sears is going, why is the state of Illinois accommodating it another time? Another few cool million down the proverbial drain.

The people in the area don’t want the freeway; only the state and developers are interested in this costly project. Maybe the State of Illinois is planning on luring other sinking giants to the Fox Valley area.

The State of Illinois must learn fiscal and financial responsibility! Gov. Edgar: Don’t be suckered into every harebrained scheme dreamed up by developers and dinosaur businesses! Stop throwing good money after bad and stop the proposed Fox Valley Freeway project-before it becomes just a concrete path leading to a giant sinkhole.
