Incarcerated women in Egypt suffer from severely overcrowded conditions and a lack of sanitary facilities and medical supplies, according to a recent report on Egyptian prisons released by the human-rights group Middle East Watch. The prison, 20 miles from Cairo, holds 1,100 women. Egypt’s prosecutor-general reportedly told the group’s inspectors that he had received no complants of prisoner mistreatment during his six first months in office.
