Arthur Stein, 69, a wire and cable broker and a former Big Band singer, died Thursday in Whitehall North Nursing Home, Deerfield. A Glencoe resident for 25 years, Mr. Stein was born in Detroit. He grew up in Cicero and graduated from Morton High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Signal Corps in Europe. In the late 1940s, he was a member of the professional Chicago Hakoah Soccer Team. In the 1950s, Mr. Stein sang Big Band music professionally and toured the country with several bands. During the Korean War, he went to Korea to entertain U.S. troops. He later founded Art Stein and Co., a Glencoe-based brokerage firm for wire and cable. In 1989, he founded Midwest Wire and Cable, also in Glencoe. He closed the company in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Francine; two sons, Mitchell and Mark; a daughter, Amy; and a brother. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Weinstein Brothers Chapel, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette.
