A new telecommunications tax on cellular phone and fax machine operations is one way the city could raise additional revenue next year, the city’s finance director has suggested.

Finance director Keith Bennett made the suggestion Monday at a meeting of the City Council’s finance committee.

Meanwhile, a recent audit of North Chicago’s 1991-92 financial statements has disclosed some minor problems in the way the city collects and records receipts and disbursements. Auditors say the city needs to improve the coordination of the clerk’s office and finance department.
