The School District 300 school board recently approved a proposed $249,850 building, grounds and maintenance budget to repair and keep up the district’s 18 schools.

The approved budget, a slight drop over last year’s $250,250 spending plan, is the lowest proposed in five years.

The projects funded include state-mandated elevator and bleacher inspections, extensive painting, locker repairs and replacement of lighting fixtures, said Fred Goering, assistant superintendent for business.

Among the projects is a $26,000 plan to repair heating and air conditioning problems at Dundee Middle School and Jacobs High School.

But a lack of funds has led to the postponement of plans for parking lot repairs said Goering.

The board also approved paying $93,017 to Sigalos and Associates Ltd. of Elmhurst for their work on the addition to Sleepy Hollow Elementary School and $40,222 to Lamp Inc. of Elgin for their work on the Neubert Elementary School addition.

Dahlquist and Lutzow Architects Ltd. of Elgin, architects of the additions, also were paid $2,945.

Both projects are expected to be completed this summer, said Goering.
