As an ex-cab driver, I knew Paxton Hotel very well. I drove many people to that hotel. I was watching this building burning and watching people helplessly leaning out of smoky windows asking for help, which didn’t come in time, who decided to jump on the sidewalk and get killed or end up with broken bones.

I remember 40 years ago firemen brought nets to all fires. Why don’t they do it now? They would have saved many, many kids at Our Lady of the Angels school 34 years ago. Kids were jumping on sidewalks and getting killed; 92 of them died.

They really should bring back net service to all the fires.
