If you employ a nanny, housekeeper or other household help, April 30 is the deadline for filing Form 942, “Employer’s Quarterly Tax Return for Household Employees.”
Taxpayers should now be well versed in the tax obligations of people who employ household help, given all the attention to the issue during the confirmation hearings of Zoe Baird, whose attorney-general nomination was scuttled by the controversy over her hiring illegal immigrants as household workers.
Anyone who hires domestic help and pays them $50 or more a quarter is supposed to report the wages on Form 942 and pay Social Security taxes each quarter on behalf of their household employees.
