The Children’s Service Board on Monday kicked off a 5-year, $1 million fundraising campaign to help Children’s Memorial Hospital better treat and protect young victims of violence and abuse.

The drive will aid the hospital’s Child Protective Services Team, which provides services to children who are victims of violence, physical or sexual abuse, neglect or other misdeeds, as well as their families.

Dr. Edward Zieserl, said the money will be used to hire a coordinator, another physician and another social worker.

Last year, the team treated 380 patients, Zieserl said.
