Profitability vow: General Motors Corp. stockholders heard Friday that the giant company is remaking its slowly recovering North American Operations. GM’s core business unit lost $194 million in the first quarter, but losses have slowed. William E. Hoglund, an executive vice president, told shareholders that North American carmaking “is the profit center. No more wishful thinking, no more thumb-sucking. The focus is on action.”
