The College of Du Page has agreed to buy 9.1 acres at Swift and Army Trail Roads for a satellite campus that would serve the northern part of Du Page County.
The college board approved buying the land last week for $650,000 from Marquardt Elementary School District 15.
“This is going to provide excellent visibility for the college since (the land) is located just off of I-355 (North-South Tollway),” said Bill Troller, a college spokesman.
The northern part of the county is “a key area, and it has tremendous growth potential,” Troller said.
The college has divided the county into three regions to serve students living in each area. In 1991, the college established the Westmont Center, which serves residents in east Du Page County, and the Naperville center, for those in the west.
The college is renting space at the Davea Career Center in Addison for classes in northern Du Page County, where, Troller said, about 11,500 students are served.
The college also has classes at 96 satellite locations throughout the county in high schools, churches and retirement homes. But a central campus is needed in each of the college’s regions for coordination and general services, Troller said.
No timetable has been set for construction of the campus, which would be used for both credit and non-credit courses, Troller said.
