Shares higher in Tokyo: The Nikkei Stock Average closed at 20,895.99 points Wednesday, up 264.23, or 1.28 percent, on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, in early trading, the dollar sank to a postwar low against the Japanese yen following a plunge on other world markets. The U.S. currency was trading at 108.80 yen at midday, down from 110.56 late Tuesday.
