You still can get your “Billary” fix even if you fail to spot them lunching at the trendy Red Sage restaurant or enjoying a late-night jog to unwind after a long day of pitching their new health-care reform program.
Samia Akber, an Iranian immigrant, is among the sidewalk entrepreneurs offering passersby a chance to have their photos taken with a life-size cardboard Bill or Hillary in front of the U.S. Treasury building on Pennsylvania Avenue, next door to the White House.
Conventional wisdom might presume that Hillary (depicted in a hot pink coat dress with gold star-shaped buttons) would be the most in-demand, among shutterbugs, especially among progress-minded women willing to fork over about $5.50 for a Polaroid.
But according to Akber, of the 500 takers on a typical Saturday, 70 percent prefer their mugs be taken embracing the blue-suited “president.”
And it’s mostly men opting for a not-so-intimate portrait with “Hillary.”
One wonders, however, if the vendors are overlooking an obvious moneymaker.
After all, who could look more natural in this less-than-flexible format than Vice President Al Gore?
