As the CTA finalizes another large purchase of buses, I’m amazed that the vehicles are not required to run on an alternative fuel, such as natural gas. No fleet of vehicles would seem a more natural target for such use.
Anyone who disagrees that the buses aren’t major polluters should visit Water Tower park during the morning or late afternoon, and take a deep breath. Besides the exhaust, this new line-up of parked, idling polluters is a disgusting sight at the most significant landmark in our city.
