Boeing flies: The Air Force might buy up to 50 cargo jets from Boeing Co., McDonnell Douglas Corp. or Lockheed Corp. to fill a shortage in airlift capacity, Defense Undersecretary John Deutch said at a news conference. The Pentagon would make a decision in time to include the proposal in President Clinton’s fiscal 1995 budget in January, Deutch said. Contenders for the project are cargo versions of Boeing’s 747 or 767 commercial jets, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 or the Lockheed C-5B.
