I was disturbed by your recent editorial on the Minuteman symbol at the University of Massachusetts being challenged by the politically correct. These people seem to want to deny part of this country’s history. The Minuteman was indeed militaristic as the protesters indicate, but that was his job to defend his home and the homes of others from oppressors.

Racist? Sexist? Maybe he was, but at this time, how many males weren’t? I’m not saying that these attitudes were correct but that’s the way society was 200 years ago.

The politically correct appear to want to limit or eliminate two of American’s greatest freedoms: the right to free speech and the right to self-expression.

It seems ironic that while certain people are expressing their displeasure for the Minuteman, the only reason they can do this is because of the Minuteman’s fight during the revolution. The very people who fought for these freedoms that we now enjoy are under attack by people who are using that right to free expression.
