A Marquette District tactical officer shot a a 23-year-old man in the foot on the West Side Monday after the man allegedly pointed a gun at him, authorities said.

Eric Gill, 1422 S. Millard Ave., was treated and released at Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his right foot, a hospital spokesman said.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of West Douglas Boulevard, after a citizen told the officer he had seen a man with a gun, police said.

Gill was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Office of Professional Standards is investigating the incident.
