While most of us probably were tackling “Old MacDonald” on the kazoo at the age of 4, Donny Osmond did his first professional singing gig in front of thousands of paying concertgoers at McCormick Place.
Now, 31 years later, he is starring in the hit musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which will continue through Jan. 9 at the Chicago Theatre. Osmond also is the featured singer on the show’s soundtrack album (Polygram).
What does the actor want for Christmas if he could have just one gift this year? Let’s talk computers.
“If I could have one gift for myself it would be a battery-operated CD-ROM,” Osmond says.
But that’s really wishful thinking-a portable CD-ROM doesn’t yet exist.
“I’m not into the (two-seater sports cars) Ferrari Testarossas. I’ve wanted a computer for years and years, and I finally asked myself: `What are you waiting for?’
“The CD-ROM enables your computer to read off of CDs (which can hold the information of an entire encyclopedia set on one disc).
“I love to learn things,” says the father of four. “It’s an amazing database to work off of.
“Plus, I’d like a fax/modem for my laptop. I spend at least two hours on the Edens (Expressway) everyday I’m working, and I could get all sorts of things accomplished.”
