Ordered to pay: State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. has been ordered to pay for building code upgrades for homes, insured with replacement coverage, that were damaged by Hurricane Andrew. But the insurer is warning policyholders that the ruling may end up costing them more in higher premiums. Acting Dade County (Fla.) Circuit Judge Bernard Jaffee said in a ruling that Bloomington, Ill.-based State Farm must pay the extra costs because if a home is not rebuilt in compliance with new building codes, it cannot be legally occupied.
