Gov. Jim Edgar on Thursday named the nine-member panel that will develop the criteria for locating a low-level radioactive waste disposal site in the state.
The group consists of four technical experts, a former Lockport mayor, an environmental researcher and the directors of the state Departments of Energy and Natural Resources, Nuclear Safety and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Richard Semonin of Champaign, chief emeritus of the Illinois State Water Survey and a hydrologist, will be the panel’s chairman.
