The Dec. 30 letter by Patricia Siwicki in which she states that a law allowing citizens to carry a concealed firearm will result in “a society where I have to be a ‘fast draw’ to survive” shows a common misconception about concealed carry.
If a criminal knows (or suspects) that a potential victim is armed, he or she will seek easier prey. If you don’t think concealed carry works, look at the crime rates in towns where it is easy for a law-abiding citizen to obtain a permit to carry.
The New York train massacre carnage could have been kept to a minimum if someone was legally carrying. An added benefit would also be a couple less criminals bogging down our courts and prisons.
No, we don’t live in a perfect world. There are people out there who seek to do others harm for virtually no reason. It’s naive to think banning self-protection is a way to stop crime and violence.
