Samuel Fox, 88, a lawyer in Chicago for 66 years and a certified public accountant with offices in the John Hancock Building, died Dec. 23 at home. He was also a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1946 to 1973 and at Roosevelt University from 1973 to 1985, as well as the author of several textbooks. Mr. Fox, who graduated from the University of Chicago at age 19 and from Loyola University Law School three years later, had a variety of interests. In addition to his teaching and CPA practice, he had been a sports columnist for the Park Ridge Herald and a drama critic for the Des Plaines Suburban Times from 1946 to 1966. At UIC, he received the Silver Circle Teacher of the Year Award in 1972. Over the years, he also taught courses at the Illinois Institute of Technology, North Park College, American University in Beirut, Lebanon, and, under a Fulbright grant, at the Al-Hikma University in Baghdad. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence and Steven; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Plans for a memorial service are pending.
