In a Dec. 28 editorial, the Tribune laments a Chinese proposal for eugenics legislation to stop “the prevalence of abnormal births.” This would be achieved by ending the pregnancies.
The Tribune says “imagine the potential for abuse” and refers to “Chinese pressure to have even late-term abortions.”
The newspaper pirouettes around its own pro-abortion position. It recoils at aborting “abnormal” fetuses yet supports a program of doing away with any fetus, healthy or not, at the pleasure of the mother.
This parallels recent judicial decisions that seek to punish a drug-addicted mother for endangering her fetus. Why the alarm if the fetus can otherwise be disposed of casually via an abortion clinic?
