Meanwhile . . . : In the latest sign that company headquarters are no longer the icons for Corporate America they used to be, IBM is considering vacating its head office in Armonk, N.Y. Opened in 1963, the building was designed by architects Skidmore, Owens & Merrill of Chicago, and a glass atrium by I.M. Pei was added later. IBM officials stressed that the 400,000-square-foot Armonk headquarters building, with 700 employees, had not been listed with real estate brokers and was not yet up for sale.
