Catrina Towers made two free throws with :32 to play to lift Proviso East (15-5) to a 58-54 West Suburban crossover victory over visiting archrival Proviso West Thursday night.
Towers’ free throws made the score 56-54, and a basket by Zakiya Maynard accounted for the final score.
“I knew we were going to be a tough team because we’re quick and all the starters are seniors except Zakiya, who’s a junior,” Proviso East coach Marilyn Pickers said.
Towers had 17 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Maynard had 17 points and nine rebounds. LaShaundra Humphries added 11 points.Morgan Park 68, Harlan 52: Roslyn Barker scored 16 points and Regina Dunbar and Tiffany Blackburn added 11 apiece as Morgan Park (12-4, 6-1) cruised to the Red-South triumph.
Curie 61, Bogan 41: Veronica Cardenas and Ronika Shields scored 12 points apiece to help Curie (10-6, 6-2) prevail in the Red-Central.
CVS 60, Hirsch 51: Donnise Williams’ 18 points led three players in double figures for Chicago Vocational (6-9, 3-5) in a Red-South victory.
Clemente 69, Austin 59: Clemente (10-7, 6-1) knotted the Blue-West race behind Annette Brandy’s 50 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and eight steals. Brandy is averaging near 38 points a game. Chiquita Chambers and DeWone Currin tallied 16 apiece to lead Austin (6-1).
Kelly 47, Kennedy 32: Amy Evans scored 12 of her 19 points in the second half as Kelly (9-4, 6-3) pulled away from a 21-21 halftime tie for the Blue-Central victory. Maria Garcia added 11 points for Kelly.
Hyde Park 61, Fenger 45: Monique Daniels’ 15 points and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Brenda Hutchison helped Hyde Park (10-3, 7-1) cruise in the Blue-South.
Ridgewood 38, Cathedral 27: Tammy Czeszewski’s 13 points helped Ridgewood (9-8) prevail.
St. Barbara 38, St. Martin de Porres 33: Jennifer Bailey’s 16 points led St. Barbara (3-12, 1-2) to the GCAC East triumph.
Lockport 46, Bolingbrook 24: Felicia Thomas posted 13 points and Peggy Casey had 11 for Lockport (11-9, 3-3) in the SICA West. Trina Underdonk’s 14 points were tops for Bolingbrook.
Regina 51, Marillac 49 (OT): Julie Martin led Regina with 12 points while Beth Schillen’s 17 were tops for Marillac in a GCAC North matchup.
Riverside-Brookfield 57, Elmwood Park 52: Liz Brodhay led R-B with 22 points and Lena Sommer scored 20 for Elmwood Park.
Schaumburg 52, St. Charles 44: Kristy Madura led the Lady Saxons (8-8) with 15 points, Jenny Cieminski added 13 and Davreen Thornton chipped in with 11 in a non-conference game.
Palatine 46, Wheeling 29: Brienne Costa’s career-high 22 points led Palatine (11-8, 2-3) in the Mid-Suburban North.
West Chicago 41, Wheaton-Warrenville South 35: Robin Westrom helped West Chicago (11-5, 4-2) with 10 points in the DuPage Valley contest.
Joliet 70, Andrew 55: No. 18 Joliet (17-0) won its sixth straight in the SICA West as Kesha Burton netted 20, Kisha Barefield added 14 and Tasha Love 13.
Downers Grove N. 61, Hoffman Estates 49: Erin Keating and Casey Leonhardt each scored 19 points to lead Downers North (17-4) to the non-conference victory. Nicki Junge led the Hawks with 22 points.
Hinsdale Central 42, Argo 32: Amy Wardle scored 14 points and Jenny Pavich added 10 for the Red Devils (10-8). Julie Jarosz led Argo with 25 points.
