Having never been a fan of Jesse Jackson, I would say now he deserves some approval for his essay in the Tribune about violence and family values (Dec. 29).

He stated the biggest problems in the inner city stem from fatherless families-teenage motherhood, drugs, dropping out of school, etc. This admission was long overdue, but it took courage and now we don’t have to blame the problems entirely on society. What is needed now is to have other black leaders join Jesse Jackson on his crusade.
