Leon Brenner Sr., 76, of Hillside, a retired assistant principal second violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, died Sunday at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Mr. Brenner spent 43 years with the orchestra. He began taking music lessons at the age of 3 in his native Philadelphia, before his family moved to Chicago. Mr. Brenner spent five years with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and also performed with the Indianapolis Symphony. Mr. Brenner played with the radio staff orchestra of the American Broadcasting Company one winter before joining the Chicago symphony in 1945. Survivors include his wife, Mildred, and his son, Leon Jr. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Hursen Funeral Home, 4001 W. Roosevelt Rd., Hillside. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
