As the level of snow recedes in three months, buildings should begin rising in Community Unit District 303, as the major portion of the building program could be under way by then if the Board of Education approves bids.
Architectural drawings of the new middle school and the high school and administrative center additions are finished, and bidding is expected to be completed in less than a month. The three buildings make up more than $30 million of the $44.1 million bond proposal for building and renovations that voters authorized in April.
Board members could vote on the recommended bids as soon as next month, and the target for construction is early April, which architect Joel Hestrup said is good timing because the ground should be pretty well thawed by then.
The district will have bids in hand for the administrative center addition Tuesday. When the lowest bid for that addition came in more than $400,000 over expectations in the fall, the board asked that the project be scaled down and re-bid. Hestrup presented an exterior drawing and detailed blueprints of the middle school and high-school addition to board members last week. Both buildings will be nearly identical in case the middle school needs to be converted to a west side high school in the future.
