The cost of improving water flow in the Seavey Drainage Ditch is expected to cost $500,000 more than expected, according to village officials. The original estimate totaled $1.4 million, village officials say.
Village engineer Philip Perna said the higher cost was caused by excavation, grading and restoration cost increases. In addition, the village will have to move a water main belonging to the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency. The 24-inch water main, which crosses under the Seavey Drainage Ditch and provides water to Vernon Hills, will have to be lowered.
Several areas of Seavey Creek are filled with silt, overgrown with trees and filled with debris, Perna said. In addition, several culverts are too high to allow for proper drainage.
