As Chicago’s foremost AIDS prevention and education agency, STOP AIDS supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) HIV prevention marketing initiative in promoting the use of a latex condom as an effective way to prevent the spread of HIV infection through advocating correct and consistent condom use.
Thirteen years into the AIDS epidemic, the government’s efforts to shift towards more targeted communications relating to prevention behaviors are long overdue. Although it is our belief that the commercial spots are incomplete (i.e. failure to mention use of a compatible water soluble, nonoxyl 9 lubricant), we believe that they will facilitate important AIDS prevention dialogue in schools and in the home.
STOP AIDS supports local and national AIDS education/prevention advocacy efforts as they assist STOP AIDS in delivering its vital programs. STOP AIDS supports the airing of “America Responds to AIDS” public service announcements.
