Frigid temperatures didn’t cast a chill on the elegant Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce dinner dance and officer installation last weekend at the Oak Lawn Hilton.

Formal dress was the order of the evening as Brian Anderson of Oak Lawn, incoming president of the chamber, greeted guests with executive director Joan Kennedy of Chicago.

“Being elected president is probably the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me,” Anderson said as he prepared to take the helm of the 360-member chamber of commerce.

Serving with Anderson for 1994 will be Klem Brzuskiewicz of Palos Heights, first vice president; JoAnn Buschbach of Palos Heights, second vice president; Leslie Ohm of Palos Heights, secretary; and Jim Brady of Oak Lawn, treasurer. In addition, 12 others were installed as members of the board of directors.

Inside, seated at a dinner table made elegant by a floating gardenia centerpiece and candles, were Anderson’s aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Raymond Peterson of Oak Lawn.

Two mayors were on hand for the festivities. Mayor Ernest Kolb of Oak Lawn served as installing officer for the evening, while Mayor Anthony Vacco of Evergreen Park said, “I’m here to cheer on Oak Lawn.”

“I’m here with my husband, Daniel, to cheer on Susan Naurocki of Southwest Federal Savings & Loan, who will be installed as a board member,” said Elaine Mankus of Hickory Hills, also an employee of Southwest Federal Savings.

And when the 305 guests sat down to dinner, Anderson, the new chamber president (who happens to have served as catering director of the Oak Lawn Hilton for 14 years), made sure the guests would enjoy their fresh halibut or chateaubriand, capped off with peach melba for dessert.
