All Fox Lake residents are being asked to boil their cooking and drinking water Tuesday after last week’s cold weather wreaked havoc on the water system.
A boil order was set to expire Tuesday morning. But water department officials said they were likely to extend that as they struggle to return service to normal. The cold caused several mains and valves to break, causing about one-fourth of the village’s residents to lose water, said Mitchell Zimmer, assistant director of the water department.
By Monday afternoon, workers had restored service to about half of those residents, he said. But he said village officials still are trying to determine where all of the breakdowns occurred.
Consequently, they could not predict when conditions might return to normal.
