John E. Klest, 87, a former Chicago teacher, died Tuesday in West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park. Mr. Klest taught at Loyola University Dental School, Carl Schurz High School and St. Ignatius High School and was assistant principal of Wells High School in Chicago from 1939 until his retirement in 1971. He was also a charter member of the Chicago Teachers Union. He is survived by his wife, Regina; five children; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Poterek Funeral Home, 5735 W. Fullerton Ave. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. James Church, 5700 W. Fullerton Ave.
