John J. Cody, 73, a retired police captain and veteran of 38 years with the Chicago Police Department, died Tuesday in his winter home in Ft. Lauderdale. He also lived in the Beverly Woods neighborhood on the Far South Side. Capt. Cody served as a sergeant in charge of the City Hall detail and later was director of training for the department and director of neighborhood relations. He received a master’s degree from Loyola University and taught police administration at De Paul and Roosevelt Universities. He also was a teacher for the International Association of Police Chiefs. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Brady-Gill Funeral Home, 2929 W. 87th St., Evergreen Park. Mass for Capt. Cody will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Walter Catholic Church, 118th Street and Western Avenue.
