A 31-year-old Elgin man was charged with battery and obstructing justice after he allegedly choked a man who stopped to help get his car out of a ditch the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said. Gregg B. Liss, of 719 Highland Ave., Apt. 44, was arrested about 7:55 p.m. Wednesday on Switzer Road west of Plank Road. The sheriff’s office said Liss’ vehicle was stuck in a ditch when a 27-year-old Hampshire man pulled over and offered to help. A conflict erupted when Liss’ would-be rescuer refused to drive onto private property as part of the effort, the sheriff’s office said. As the victim telephoned authorities to report the stalled vehicle, Liss allegedly grabbed him by the throat, the sheriff’s office said. Liss posted $200 bond.
