The Chicago Teachers Union’s 800-member House of Delegates on Wednesday voted unanimously to retain Thomas Reece as interim union president. Reece assumed the role just before longtime CTU President Jacqueline Vaughn died Jan. 22 after a long bout with breast cancer.
Norma White, who had served as the union’s financial secretary, will take over Reece’s duties as vice president. The two will continue in those roles until the union’s biennial election on May 20.
Union spokeswoman Jackie Gallagher said two five-member tickets have been declared for the coming election.
One slate includes the union incumbents with Reece vying for president, White for vice president, Pamelyn Massarsky for recording secretary and Melvin Wilson for treasurer and a new name, Dunbar computer teacher Michael Williams, for financial secretary.
The other ticket is headed by Bowen High School math teacher George Schmidt.
