McDonald’s Corp., plotting to become bigger, is thinking smaller. The world’s largest restaurant chain, based in Oak Brook, said Monday that it is set to open its first tiny, scaled-down prototype store called McDonald’s Classic that will serve pedestrian traffic only and offer a restricted menu. The downtown Atlanta test location, slated to open later this month, is about 300-square-feet and will serve only hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, ice cream, chicken McNuggets, egg McMuffins, danishes, soft drinks, coffee and juice. The prefabricated Classic restaurant will be dominated by two 30-foot-high Golden Arches. “We’re not looking to attack any competitors,” said Chuck Ebeling, a McDonald’s spokesman. “Rather, we always are looking for non-traditional areas to build McDonald’s business.”
