C-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e spells love for many of us. And what better way is there to tell your Valentine how sweet he or she is but with a gift of the dark confection?
This Valentine’s Day we offer two suggestions-a classic cup of hot chocolate-courtesy of Godiva Chocolatier-and a rich and moist, fudge-like miniature cake called a Williecake.
Godiva, long known for beautiful filled chocolates, candies and truffles, now packages small cubes of a blend of dark chocolate and fine cocoa in an elegant tin. These meltaway cubes, $15 for a 1/2 pound (to make 10 cups of hot chocolate), dissolve easily when heated with milk. (P.S. They’re also darn good eaten like a candy.) Cocoa Godiva is available at Marshall Field’s and Godiva Chocolatier Boutiques in Chicago, Oak Brook and Schaumburg.
The Valentine Williecake, $16, includes two mini cakes, about 5 1/2 ounces each, and comes in a gold box and charming heart-decorated bag. Chef Willing W. Howard, creator of the Williecake, will be at Marshall Field’s to autograph packages according to the following schedule: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Oakbrook Center; 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Woodfield Mall; 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 13 at State Street; noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 14 at Water Tower Place.
