Joan Beck’s Jan. 23 column, “A terminal case of wishful thinking in Clinton health plan,” is right on the money. The Clinton plan is an enormous, gargantuan, entitlement program, unprecedented in our history.

Of course, Beck’s right, the plan will cost billions more than expected-probably trillions more. Clinton and his liberal congressional supporters expect us to believe that enactment of this colossal entitlement will save us money.

Sure it will, in just the same way that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid have, by taking us to the brink of bankruptcy.

Why? Entitlements. Coming from the president who was breaking promises before his inauguration, we are supposed to believe this entitlement is different. Sure it is, and there is a bridge in California I’d like to sell you. . . .
