Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I am appalled at the Tribune’s endorsement (Feb. 16) of Dan Rostenkowski. The old values of Chicago politics are alive and well at the Tribune at least.

It is sad indeed when you see fit to place clout over character.

While Rostenkowski has not been indicted (yet) or convicted of a crime, does it not strike you as very significant that he has returned $82,000 to the government because he “might” have purchased office supplies, etc., which were not used for government purposes?

Down here in soybean country that’s considered a lot of money for “paper and pencil stuff,” and if he cannot distinguish between personal and official in the case of $82,000 worth of material, he lacks the intelligence or character to hold public office.

I hope your future endorsements are based on something better than clout, but then maybe you’d feel better if Sen. Byrd were from Illinois.
