A private memorial service will be held for Jeff Freed, a printer and part-time political science instructor at Northeastern Illinois University’s El Centro campus. Mr. Freed, 49, a San Francisco native who moved to Chicago 17 years ago, died Sept. 21. He received his master’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon in Eugene and taught American government at El Centro campus. Mr. Freed also was employed for 13 years by Printing Arts/Lithotech in Cicero and served as a board member of Clara’s House, a shelter for homeless women. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Marie. A second memorial service will be held in San Francisco.
