Chicago-based Santa Fe Pacific Corp.’s first-quarter profit, excluding special items, rose 25 percent, to $47.5 million, or 25 cents a share, from $37.9 million, or 20 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenues rose to $722 million from $653 million.
