Assumable mortgage: A loan on a property its owner can assign to a buyer upon sale of the property. In other words, if a home with a mortgage with an interest rate of 8.5 percent is purchased, the new owner can assume the mortgage at the same rate.

Consolidated mortgage bond: Bond issue that covers several units of property and may refinance separate mortgages on these properties.
