This world has become a very small planet. Value systems, however, are still very much anchored in the cultures of the “home” heritage.

No better example of this than the recent Singapore caning of an American citizen. Regardless of the crime, the punishment should be appropriate. Injustice prevailed. My hope is that this highly visible injustice will be a catalyst to focus inward on the many injustices of the American legal system.

Democracy is far from perfect, but at least we in the United States are aware of our faults and have a process to resolve them. Singapore is a nice place to visit, but I would not want to live there.
